The British Leek Growers Association is helping to educate children about the benefits of eating and growing leeks, thanks to a new Superhero and free educational resources aimed at primary and nursery settings.
Most parents know how hard it can be to get children eating vegetables and with surveys* suggesting a third of primary school children do not know where their food comes from BLGA wanted to do something to help.
So, the association, has put together two sets of educational resources, with the help of an education expert.
The Incredible Edible Leek Superhero character has been created in order to help children to understand the many superpowers this British grown vegetable has; such as being high in fibre and good for digestion as well as being tasty and seasonal.
Surveys have shown** children are more likely to eat vegetables with superheroes names or which have a superhero-like identity, and the new British leek superhero will form a part of some of the resources including fun activities such as colouring in.
Our educational resources are free download and use. They offer factual information and fun, practical activities designed to engage children at nursery and primary levels; encouraging them to think about where food comes from and what they are eating.
